Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan wants to make sure people don’t take Covid lightly. He used Twitter to warn fans in light of the ongoing Covid crisis in India.
He warned that cases are starting to decline in parts of India but do not ignore the Covid protocol.
“The situation in Covid may be getting worse, but don’t be loose in some places,” Bachchan warned. “People still have to follow the protocol.”
“Wash your hands, wear a mask, keep your distance, control travel for very necessities, follow time limits and get vaccinated,” he stressed.
He posted a similar tweet a few days ago.
Indian states have begun easing lockdowns as Covid conditions improve.
According to Our World in Data, a science online publication published by the University of Oxford, India has seen a sharp drop in daily reported cases of Covid-19 after peaking on May 8, when the seven-day average hit 391,232. Currently, the average is 123,206 cases. The number of reported Covid-related deaths has also decreased. After peaking on May 23, when the seven-day average hit 4,190, the average was 2,632.
India has reported less than 100,000 cases per day for the current three days, according to the Indian government. The daily recovery rate was higher than the daily reported cases for 28 consecutive days, and the recovery rate increased to 94.77%.
The country has now vaccinated 240 million people out of a population of 1.36 billion.
It’s great to see India recovering from the deadly crisis, but as Bachchan said, we can’t loosen up. There is still a long way to go and if you stop following the SOP, you could lose a lot of progress.
